Building confidence and fluency in Hebrew through communicative language methods.

Vision

We teach Ivrit through communicative language methods, aiming to help students achieve confidence and fluency in meaningful, real-life communication.

Our curriculum objectives include:

  • Developing effective communication skills across speaking, listening, reading and writing
  • Fostering analytical thinking via task-based learning and problem-solving
  • Building language skills that support future language studies
  • Deepening awareness of Israeli culture and global perspectives
  • Positioning Ivrit as a contemporary, practical language

Teaching approach

Instruction emphasises active communication through dialogue, questioning, description and idea expression. The methodology incorporates storytelling, collaborative problem-solving and interactive tasks where students negotiate meaning together.

Grammar instruction is contextual rather than isolated, developing accuracy through repeated practical use rather than rote correction.

Programme details:

  • 1.5 hours weekly instruction across Key Stage 2
  • Uses Ivrit BeClick curriculum (Matach, Israel)
  • Four progressive stages spanning Years 3–6
  • Includes multimedia resources and flexible differentiation

Lesson structure:

  • Opening retrieval practice (vocabulary, quizzes, video recall)
  • Contextual introduction of new language
  • Guided and independent practice
  • Real-world application activities

Technology integration includes Chromebooks, the Ivrit BeClick platform and Google Classroom. Cultural learning is embedded through Israeli traditions, authentic materials and cultural comparisons.

Progress assessment

Assessment methods include baseline evaluations at unit start, responsive classroom checks, listening comprehension via songs and native recordings, speaking progression from isolated words to extended presentations, and reading and writing development in meaningful contexts.
