Vision
Music is a transformative form of communication that fosters creativity and emotional expression. All children should be able to perform, listen to, review and evaluate music while developing singing and composition skills.
How we teach music
- One weekly lesson for all classes from Nursery through Year 6
- Weekly singing assemblies across all key stages
- Specialist music instruction in a dedicated music room
- A curriculum aligned with national standards and the Jewish festival calendar
- Exposure to varied musical genres and composers
By the end of Year 6, students master three instruments: recorder, ukulele and Djembe drums. They also learn notation across multiple systems.
Additional enrichment includes annual performances for large audiences, live concert attendance, choir and orchestra participation, and optional private instrumental lessons.
Progress and assessment
- Repeated key concepts annually to build strong foundational understanding
- Consistent retrieval practice within lessons
- Differentiated teaching approaches accommodating all learners
- Expert teacher modelling with dedicated practice time
- Post-lesson assessments informing instructional planning
